Just ok- don't think it has much boy appeal. Funny story and cartoonish illustrations.

Probably would be better for when Amaya is older. Louise is in second grade. I really liked this book. As a teacher, and as a mom. As a mom I liked that it initially had a kid who didn't like the teacher because she wasn't giving out easy As. She always tells Louise "You can do better." And in the end, Louise actually misses the teacher when she has a substitute who hands out As like toilet paper. She realizes she feels more intelligent with someone pushing her. As a teacher I liked it because I could relate with Miss Pearl's approach :D

I go back and forth on this one. Louise wants to get straight A's. She is afraid that with mean, old Ms. Pearl she won't get any. Ms. Pearl tells her she can try harder. Louise learns a lesson about earning the correct praise and her grades. I am concerned by the message being sent by the quiz at the end of the book and the final pages with "Big Cheese SmartyPants Who Got straight A's." This is the part where I had more concerns. The illustrations are fun.
