I DNF’d and then came back to it and I should’ve let it lie. The first half of the book is a snooze fest. I don’t care about the Greekness of it all and we could’ve just been told they were in that class and moved on. This is such a long book for no reason, the vulgarness was hard to get passed, and the incest addition is so strange. I will say all those details really sold how fucked up everyone in this group was. Their nonchalant talk of death and murder, their weird ass rituals in the woods and even the casual sexualness between everyone in the group (relatives included) made me feel as if I was like stepping into a cult and a lot of it made me feel very uncomfortable. When they finally got to the murder part it got more digestible, I liked seeing how everyone handled it but then it KEPT GOING.. for way longer than necessary. I will say the end did shock me. I would not recommend this book and I’d say just read a summary if you’re curious

My flatmate and my best friend revealed one day that this was their favourite book. One of many spooky shared tastes, having not known one another at all before I introduced them. My flatmate lent me his copy and I devoured it in little over a day, awakening naturally at 3am, and reaching straight for it.
The writing is exquisite. The characters have depth and mystery. The plot unfolds deliciously from the very first line. I can't wait to read it again.

4.75 stars but rounded to 5

it took me a VERY long time to actually get into this book as it starts super slow but as the story progresses i was gripped, left completely speechless at one point. thoroughly enjoyed this read ✨

The beginning of the book drew me in and the plot held my attention until about 65% through. Enjoyed the writing style, and enjoyed the concept of the book overall -- learning about the crime first and finding out motivation retrospectively.

I was bored after the funeral and thought that there were many different elements that were thrown in for shock value and not connected nor needed.

Characters are all insufferable and evil but in an intriguing way.
