I wish I could read it again for the first time. This book has done to my adult life what Harry Potter did to my teen years; made me fall in love with reading all over again

It took over a year to read, but oh boy was it worth it. I don't think I've come across a world as alien in fantasy as Roshar. The Way of Kings is a spellbinding tome, charting the beginning of the stories of our protagonists Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar and their wide cast of allies and enemies. One thing that struck me about WOK is that Sanderson knows how to write women convincingly.

People will say don't start with this as your first Sanderson novel - but I say why not? It was my first, and is still one of my most beloved of his. Dip your toe in one of the current greats of fantasy.

DID NOT FINISH: 32%

I simply don't have the energy for characters that are largely uninteresting to me. Reminder to myself to stop trying to read this book, this is like my third attempt just let it go already.

Very solid. Didnt meet my expectations though that might be cause they were sky high. Mistborn still has it beat. Looking forward to the second one (apparently this is the best out of the 5)

As much as I have loved the book; its world building, storyline, characters, plot, pace, and a long et cetera. I am left thinking mostly of the social commentary it makes. I’m not sure if Brandon Sanderson intended to do so but the way he creates a complex world with different races, social hierarchies, cultures, with his characteristic personal touch of shards influencing this world. But whether he intended it or not it does come across as very good social critic in many aspects and touches on human nature (thus far at least).

I loved the characters all of them in their way (I know there’s people that don’t like Dalinar much). I think the pace was very good. And I’m eager to know more about this complex world Sanderson has created.
