Started reading this book as it was recommended in the New Yorker. When I finished it, I found that it's being made into a movie starring Julia Roberts.

Some great atmosphere and, after an overly stylised opening, good prose but somehow I didn't quite love this.

I really, really wanted to like this book. I had bought last year, read about 50 pages, then decided to DNF it. Then, the movie comes out on Netflix. I decide to give the book another try to read before watching the film. I was confused most all the time, and frustrated at just how open-ended everything was. I understand the author’s intent was to keep his cards close to his chest, and not tell us a whole lot about what is actually happening, which is supposed to make us more scared… but really, ya girl was very confused trying to make sense of it all. However, I eventually read the book until the very end and can appreciate the challenge of reading a book in a writing style I am not all too familiar with.
