A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Review:

Rating: 5 stars out of 5

I have been waiting for this book since I read Part 3 and was so excited to see when this one was coming out and it was even more than I was hoping for. Brian has been suffering silently while watching his brother and bosses find love while he keeps having men run from him. Brian knows how to track and intimidate and is one of the best Duke has. Sway has dedicated his life to taking care of others and still hurting from his brother’s death years ago.

Both of these men have scars, some visible and some not. Brian has to learn to trust and not doubt everything, he also needs the support of someone not his brother or co-worker. Sway needs someone to take care of him while supporting him and accepting his family into the mix too,

I loved Brian, while he is big and intimidating he is terribly sweet with the right person. I could just feel his pain and loneliness but you could also see his doubt and how he tried to hold himself back when he thought he would be hurt. You could see that he had given up on ever speaking again but continues his therapy and quite unexpectedly make big progress. Sway has kept his feelings and heart locked up for a long time but I could see how Brian quickly got under his skin. These two are so perfect for each other and I loved watching them navigate through their relationship. I loved that Duke is hiring some new guys which means that this series will get to continue. Yay!

The cover art by Jay Aheer is just as great as the last and continues to follow the style of the series.

I fucking loved it. This is by far my favorite book in the series. ♡♡
Imo you can read this book as a standalone. But if you’ll do you may wanna consider my advice at the end of my review.

***********

Brian is mute - caused by trauma. For five years he hasn’t spoken a word. He can’t. His brain won’t let him. Brian longs for something real, for love in his life but the guys he dated in the past had a hard time seeing past his mutism or his dangerous job as bounty hunter.

Sway has his own trauma. He lost his twin brother in college and fears experiencing a similar loss again. So he is very cautious when it comes to trusting someone with his heart. But when he and Brian first met they have an instant connection and understanding for each other.

"You think your mutism is unattractive but it’s not. Do you know what a relief it is to be able to feel what you’re saying… that you use your touch to express yourself?” Sway breathed deeply. “It’s so damn special to speak with you, Brian.”

I was so f* sorry for Brian because of his fear everyone he cared for would always expect him to speak again one day.

And god these two are hot. I would have crawled the wall with all that waiting for the good stuff and the sexual tension and sizzling between them if it weren’t for their first encounter in the previous book.

“Hunt me, Brian,”

“You got fifteen minutes before I start. Inside only. It’ll be dark. Hide anywhere you want. When I find you,” Brian said, in all confidence. “I’ll show you what it’s like to be captured by me.”

I loved them both so much. They were so tender and careful with each other right from the beginning it made me melt down to a puddle. Besides that both characters were driven and smart. They basically had their shit together in life and were both very mature and confident. I loved that.

It really was a beautiful love story.

Her (Sway’s Mom) warm eyes shone with affection as she watched that dark man with deadly weapons hanging off him, cradle her son to his chest as if he was the most precious thing in the world,…

**********
side note:
I want an "aunt“ like Tweetie *lmaoo - she’s like sixty or something.

Tweetie: My cuzin Jamar. Remember the gay barber?? He said something about lubricashun being important. Did I type that right? Do you got some of that shuga?

***
“My cousin said Atlanta is gay man’s mecca. If that’s so, then why are ya’ll all still single, then? I just don’t get it. But, no one wants to listen to me. If I was gay, I’d be on my fifth husband by now.”

And as I always say, A.E. Via’s stories are best served with the voice of Aiden Snow. So if you like listening to books, pick up the audio for these.

My advice: If you wanna read this book as a standalone (because it’s good) I recommend you pick up book #3 [b:Promises Part 3|35064709|Promises Part 3 (Bounty Hunters, #3)|A.E. Via|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1493937520l/35064709._SY75_.jpg|56358379] from KU and read chapters 22, 23 and 32 first. They’re about how Brian and Sway first met in a sex club without even exchanging names and then meet again by coincidence at Danas house, both equally surprised. (Brian is Ford’s little brother and Sway is Dana’s best friend.) All from Brian’s POV. It’s a really hot and sweet treat before their story fully begins.

I’ve been waiting for Brian’s book for what seems like forever! I was dying to find out more about him! This book is more relationship driven than hunter driven although there is a couple of ‘hunts’ that happen. During one of the ‘hunts’ we get cameo appearances by some of the Nothing Special guys which I don’t think would make sense without having read those books.

Sway and Brian are pretty perfect together when they can get out of their own way. Sway is afraid to enter a meaningful relationship because he’s too afraid to love and lose. Brian is extremely sensitive and surprisingly vulnerable about his mutism because he is dismissed or made fun of by most men. They have off the charts sexual chemistry. Sway ‘reads’ Brian well…like they’ve known each other forever. He sees and understands Brian in a way no other has. There isn’t a lot of angst between them…just a couple of bumps along the way that are sorted quickly.

My favorite scene hands down is when they get dressed in formal wear…I think my heart stopped for a minute. There are a couple of other powerfully emotional scenes that I don’t want to spoil but will stick with me.

Ford surprised me in this one…he selfishly wants Brian to talk again so he feels better about Brian’s recovery. Ford put unnecessary pressure on Brian and I really think it slowed Brian’s process. There were a couple of side characters that were nasty and I could have done without them.

My only complaint is the length…this one seemed needlessly long and I skimmed a couple of scenes. This is probably my favorite of the series but it looks like we’ll have more coming in the future.
