This book was dark but perhaps not as dark as I expected. I was moved by the man’s devotion to his son, trying to give his son something resembling a childhood in such a dark time, and by the child’s commitment to goodness and his concern for the wellbeing of others, even at his own loss. I enjoyed their conversations the most. The writing was not for me and occasionally the dialogue was difficult to follow.

Took me about 59 pages to get into this book, but I enjoyed the dark ambiance of the story even if it wasn't full of a Ron of action.
