I absolutely LOVE IxxJ + ExxP stories! I adored this book. I saw myself so much in Daphne it was impossible to ignore. She, Miles, Julia, and Ashleigh were all such interesting, fleshed out characters with their own interconnecting stories. Peter & Petra (weird that they both have names that mean "rock" lol?) definitely could be more interesting, but I'm not pressed about it because I like having people to blame & be unashamedly angry at. But Daphne, with her trust issues, side character syndrome, library career, cautious temperament, etc... it all was... ME. And her chemistry with Miles was palpable.

I like that the story played out all the tropes of forced proximity, fake dating, AND opposites attract. It seems like a person wouldn't be able to do all that well, but because it ping-ponged between a few tropes, it didn't lean on one so hard that it created a run-of-the-mill plotline.

It was refreshing to see a book in which the FMC has a strong family life, work life, and is working on a strong social life (and achieves it!). It was written so healthily, without the dumb mistakes that Abbie Jimenez's characters make. The issue that happened at the end of Funny Story was completely reasonable and handled/resolved well. Daphne learns to build a well-rounded life for herself, and Miles is only part of that.

I give Julia Whelan, as always, 5โญ๏ธs. She's so great at voice acting. You FEEL everything she narrates, without getting a single bit of insincerity or cheesiness.

Only fake dating trope I can get behind, obsessed with the entire premise of this!! I adored and found the characters so sweet and I loved all the side characters and their interactions.
I also really enjoyed the girl friendship that we had, especially with the forgetting her birthday mistake and normalising how you can hurt people and still work to be worthy of their friendship. I also enjoyed her relationship with her mom, it was so sweet to see it

Actually finished this on the plane yesterday but was too tired to write my review.

I loved this one.

Miles and Daphne were so incredibly fun and dynamic and the banter was top notch. I loved how lighthearted and sweet the story was and it was just like a nice breath of fresh air. The side characters were super fun too, like Ashleigh was so snarky and Julia was really sweet. Peter and Petra can eat my shorts though. I hated them and was happy they didnโ€™t get the happy ending.

Speaking of endings, I loved how in the end, Daphne was the one that got to tell their story.

I JUST LOVED THIS ONE, OK?!

daphne vincent is a childrenโ€™s librarian & miles nowak is a bartender. theyโ€™re friends, but they quickly become better friends when both of their partners leave them for each other

daphne moves in with miles, since her ex moved his new boo in with him & miles now has an extra room. they begin to hang out. amid becoming best friends, they also begin to develop stronger feelings for each other

this book has all the fโ€™s - forced proximity, friends to best friends to lovers, and fake dating. and although this book has a lot of fโ€™s, it gets an a+ from me! ๐Ÿคญ

peter & petra deserved each other. i absolutely hated them

the writing is absolutely beautiful. i love the connection & tension between daphne & miles. their friendship blossomed beautifully. i love all of the friend dates that they went on. and it was immediately palpable when the connection began changing from best friends to lovers

the only thing that kept this from being a 5 star for me was the miscommunication. there were a few instances that couldโ€™ve been quickly resolved if they just paused & talked to each other!

the miscommunication between miles & his sister was also something i disliked. she felt like she was bothering him & keeping him from his full potential and he felt like he was letting her down, meanwhile they both were soooo grateful for each other ๐Ÿฅน

this was my first emily henry & i cannot wait to dive into more! i listened to the audiobook for this book & really enjoyed it

Emily Henry did it again.
I absolutely loved the story and its characters.
You might expect a standard romance with fake dating, but Emily gives her stories so much depth and makes it feel real.
Also, she touches more topics, family relationships and how your upbringing shapes you, adult friendship and the struggles of adult life.
Also, some parts are so funny, starfish โ€ฆ

๐ŸŽค Jennifer Whelan does a great job narrating the book. I love her Julie a lot!

spoiler from the end of the book
I celebrated it so much when Daphne stood up to her father on the phone at the end of the book ๐Ÿ’ฅ
