I think I chuckled once the entire book. Was it supposed to be a funny story, or was it supposed to be a funny story?

I have to mention that this was my first Emily Henry book. My expectations for this author were high with how she was being talked about online and all.

I didn’t really like Miles, to be honest. I enjoyed his dialogue and the parts where he’s just… being Miles, but the way he still went after Petra just because she was crying—like he had some boyfriend responsibility over her—irked me. Even if it’s because he’s so unbelievably nice and never angry.

Ironically, the first time where Miles and Daphne had to pretend in front of Peter was the scene that held the most chemistry between the two compared to their other romantic scenes.

+ even though Petra and Peter were the whole cause of this, these two important characters who were steering Daphne and Miles together, they felt like plot devices. Just so that there could be misunderstandings. They had no depth or personality anywhere. The only times they appeared were to push things forward. Literally.
And then they broke up out of the blue?? It felt SO forced.

I liked Ashleigh and Julia, though. Ashleigh was my favourite character because she felt authentic, and the same goes for Julia. The banter was fun too.

I don’t want to criticise too harshly. Just don’t put too much thought into it, It was an easy read. I also liked their jobs, they felt fitting and actually made sense instead of being there just cuz, which was nice.
Overall? Enjoyable and easy read but not memorable.

I read this book in three sittings and i really enjoyed it! I don’t typically read romance, but this is the second one and i could see myself reading more! (both were Emily Henry, the first was Book Lovers)

I also get scared that I won’t be able to relate to the characters in these types of books, but I’m 21 and found a lot in common with the 30 y.o. characters! (friendship and relationship wise)

Not a big deal, but I did notice that “chortle” and “sidelong” were used quite frequently. It made me giggle seeing that the author has specific words they keep coming back to, but it can be a turnoff.

Overall, an epic book. I plan to read more of Emily Henry in the future! :D

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Writing: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Narrator(s): ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Tropes, etc: Fake Dating, Roommates, Best Friends to Lovers
POV: Single, 1st Person
3rd Act Breakup?: Yes
Cliffhanger?: No
Song Association: I’m Only Me When I’m With You by Taylor Swift

Notable Quote: “You aren’t what I pictured,” I say. “You are so, so, so much better than what my cynical little brain could’ve ever come up with.”

Brief Summary: When Daphne’s fiancé leaves her for his childhood best friend, she’s forced to move in with her ex’s new fiancée’s ex.

The Praise: I loved this so, so, sooooo much. Daphne was so relatable and Miles was so sweet. The story itself was interesting and fun, and I loved the side characters.

The Critique: I would’ve liked for Peter to get hit by a bus, but alas.

Final Thoughts: So sweet, funny, and emotional. Sliding in as a favorite of the year with only a little over a month left!

This is just superb. I was partially expecting a fake dating quick and dirty rom-com and I can't possibly have been more wrong and glad about it.

Daphne and Miles are an adorable duo, and you can't help falling in love with them just as they fall in love with each other. It was such a sweet, and somehow heart-wrenching story and if you love a romance you absolutely must read this because it's just that good.

This book was beautiful. I love the writing loved everything except the sexual content and the profanity but wow does Emily Henry know how to write a story.

I loved going through Daphne and Miles lives and seeing how they both started off so heartbroken and seeing how the blossomed and grew into people who eventually faced their fears, chose to hope instead of despair and chose to allow their negative emotions to show and trust how you're feeling and use that as a stepping stool not a dagger.

EmHen has done it again! She creates these rom com plots and the twist is that they are incredibly real and vulnerable portrayals of moving forward and taking control of your life. Both characters had valid thoughts and feelings regarding their life experiences and I really enjoyed how everything played out. I laughed, I cried, good stuff
