I read this in 2014 but I changed my rating from 3 stars to 2 stars because I hated it so much lmao.

i decided to read this book because everyone kept saying how it was a fantastic thriller and because i couldn't sleep. where do i even start? i'll say it again, nearly everyone in this book is fucking crazy. amy is psychotic and nick's borderline although i guess some of his built up rage is more understandable after what amy put him through. i couldn't get attached to the characters at all. i literally didn't care what happened to them. they could have killed each other and i would have been like 'oh, well at least they've shut up'. and that would have been a better ending than the ending we were given. that poor kid, fuck. i'm giving this three stars only because i had one small moment of empathy towards amy (and have hated myself ever since) and i think gillian flynn deserves credit for causing you to feel sympathy towards someone who clearly does not deserve it. also because as i mentioned in my previous update the jelly bean line. the book did pick up in the second half, but overall it definitely did not live up to the hype. very, very predictable and like i said an ending that made me want to go back in time so i never read it. it's really disappointing because there were a lot of twisted moments (which i live for) but there was just something about it that i just couldn't get completely on board with.

loved it. everything i enjoyed about the movie was reflected tenfold here. obsessed with the character dynamics flynn presents and develops through the novel.

From the very beginning of this book, I was completely drawn in. I found it was very cleverly written, from the two main characters' viewpoints - but which viewpoint is the truth? Extremely intriguing all the way through. Nonetheless, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, because the ending was terrible - I positively hated the ending. This shouldn't deter you from reading the book though - your mileage may vary, and you may love the ending. But either way, it's a great read.
