2.5 I’m so disappointed I didn’t like this book more, it was just a very slow plotted story. I will eventually read book two but I’m not in a hurry. Listened to the audiobook.

I have to admit I found the first part, just before hitting page 100, hard to get into. There was something, maybe the slow pace, that prevented me from falling in love with this book. But then the atmosphere, the language, the world-building won me over. It's a fantastic debut, as everyone who follows fantasy literature knows already, in which is easy to turn page after page without even realizing it.

I am absolutely baffled why this has over 4 stars!?! The story was difficult to keep up with. I couldn't connect to any of the characters and couldn't finish it.

i went into this book based off a quote i found of it on twitter, and i was blown away. the immersive writing style katherine arden has is incredible and encapsulating. i was sitting in the mid-august florida heat, but this book still made a chill run down my spine.
