I rate this more like 2 and a half stars. The first half was a bummer time as you watch their marriage slowly fall apart and then the second half was just heartbreakingly sad....I think there were too many story lines and it could have been about 200 pages shorter. Just left me feeling depressed
the book took a few turns that surprised me, but I really enjoyed it.
This did not feel like a sparks book to me, after being a hundred or so pages in I started telling people about it and they felt the same way. I actually went to look up to see If this was a ghost writers work. It wasn’t till the last 80 pages that I realized the focus of the story was not on the topic or the main characters in the book. I was most irritated with Vivian but only because I could see so much of myself in her. I begged for Russ to get a back bone but this book was not about their marriage you have to look much deeper. When you do it will be to late and the tears will flood your eyes... it is a sparks book!
If you love Nicholas Sparks books don't read this one. I found almost all of the characters to be unlikable from a spineless main character to his bitch wife they were all terrible. The story line was frustratingly contrived and the writing seemed really repetitive. I have always loved his books but this one really disappointed me.
4/5 ⭐️
this is the first book i’ve read by this author and honestly i enjoyed it. the first half was kinda iffy, i caught myself getting bored and annoyed over vivian. like this woman really tried to manipulate this man with his daughter. WHO DOES THAT 😤
i do however love the way the relationship with russ and emily came about, practically went from friends to lovers. it was cute 🥹 the ending broke me tbh, the way marge dies was a little much for me. i had to take a break every now and then but overall i enjoyed this.
i wouldn’t say this is a romance, it’s a mix of different things that i loved. i’d definitely read more by nicholas sparks 🥹
