Trippy little book. I needed some time to process this a bit more before I could post my thoughts on this one... I am thinking my rating on this hovers somewhere between a 3 and a 4.

iDeath is a gathering house at a commune after society as we know it has fallen. Lots of stuff at this commune is made from watermelon sugar (hence the title) and there are frequent mentions of watermelon sugar. The unnamed narrator lives in a shack outside of iDeath but is frequently at iDeath to meet with others and to work on writing his book. Outside of town is The Forgotten Works where all the forgotten things lay piled up for endless miles.

The book never comes out directly and says what happened to society as we know it but the narrator mentions that only 30-something books have been written in the past 200 years and how a lot of the older books had been burned for fuel. So, we can discern that this is in a time after SOMETHING has occurred.

The writing is stream of consciousness and I can tell it is written by a 60's beat poet...It definitely has that feel. Lots of mentions of watermelon sugar and reflections on the color of the sun. Maybe if I mention watermelon sugar a few more times in this review, it will have more in common with the book. :) I like post apocalyptic society books so I enjoyed that aspect but overall the book was a bit much for me.

This book counts toward the Popsugar 2020 Challenge Task #24: A book with just words on the cover; no graphics or images.

It was so very strange so very ambiguous and a weird dystopian but strangely for how short it is built a good world and lore with complex characters and relationships and it had a certain darkness too it and it was very different from anything I have read but it made perfect sense to me and the writing and the simplicity of this complex weird story is just amazing and some of the writing and quotes in here are just brilliant I would definitely recommend for a starter in classics very easy to follow I loved it
