A very traumatic start as a journalist, chapter one including a career shift due to death threats and publishing an obituary for a famous author who was still alive was a lot to get through.

But I'm very glad I continued. Dot's story was very interesting to discover with Nadine and Wes, and watching them both grow and set healthy boundaries with difficult people in their lives was great.

Dragged on badly! I had to force myself to listen to it and kept speeding it up. Just. Very much not my topic (Journalism and politics) and i just don't care about the characters' relationship, whether all the rivalries or their personal one. The point where I had to stop was when the male character (was it wes? Idk. The male narrator had a pleasant voice despite talking to slowly for my taste) got talked into telling some shady guy their story. Just.... Meh. More rivalries and pretty sure the other guy will steal the story or something....

I really liked this book. The mystery aspect was fun and easy to follow. It was a closed door romance so there wasn't any spice. I did think that Wes needed some therapy. His mama was mean as a pit viper. I liked the rivals to lovers aspect of the story. I liked how they used competition in a healthy manner after they worked out their differences.

Honestly, I just could not get interested in the story. Nothing about it was pulling me in or made me want to keep reading. I also was in a bit of a slump so that didn’t help.

Highly enjoyable read. Loved the mystery of the house and the treasure hunt.  Their relationship was nice but somehow didn’t feel like natural chemistry unlike her other books.

Lily Chu delivers another engaging romantic comedy with Drop Dead, blending humor, mystery, and heart in a fresh take on the enemies-to-lovers trope. One of the standout aspects of the novel is the strong character development—each protagonist feels fully realized, with distinct voices and believable emotional growth. The dual POV format worked beautifully, allowing readers to see both sides of the evolving romance, which made the tension and eventual connection all the more satisfying. The pacing kept things moving without feeling rushed, making it an easy book to fall into and hard to put down.

That said, the subplot involving Dot didn’t quite land for me. While the premise was intriguing, it was hard to feel emotionally invested in her story. Her lack of involvement in the unfolding mystery took away some of the context that may have made this plot line more interesting and relevant. I found myself more interested in the main characters’ journey than the unraveling of Dot’s past.

Thank you netgalley and sourcebooks casablanca for the ARC!
