In which the mystery of the Black Knight deepens, and we get to meet Angoisse, the Goth Sister, and her skeevy boyfriend. There is so much to love in this one. Kira and Devin having to work together. Angoisse's whole everything. The goblins!! The GRIMMORAX!!!
Adrienne and Bedelia continue to kick ass and crack wise, but yeah, all hail the Grimmorax. Hands down favorite character of both my sons.

I'm still really liking this series and I really loved how much attention Sparky the dragon got in this particular volume. [ Although I kinda like the vampire princess and villain I feel like it was rushed. (hide spoiler)] I'm very excited to see the brother and Wolf kid join forces to find his mother and I wonder if this will be part of the story or another spin off? Things are starting to get interesting! ~Ashley

In today's episode of "this graphic novel is so amazing and progressive and guh" we tackle abusive relationships, political corruption, and gender roles. Oh, and loving your family even if you take different paths and don't always get along. What do I have to do to put this in every elementary school in the country?

A return to the original storyline with Adrienne and Bedelia going to the swamp to rescue her sister Angoisse. There is a wonderful side story within the swamp itself; Sparky the dragon is its star but shares billing with the goblins and another monsters. It took a bit of a turn toward the silly at the end though:
Spoilervampires? Really?
.

Also, does anyone else think the Black Knight is
Spoilergoing to be revealed as Queen Ashe, Adrienne’s mother
?

Ooh, vampire princess is really fun and sparkly trope and this one did it in such a cool, unique way. Anyone else not sad at all when
boyfriend goes bye bye
? Anyone? Anyone? Just me? No? Cool. This volume bounces back well from the dipping point of the previous two installments and it's a blast falling back in love with what Princeless can be.

Recommends it for: Anyone who wants to smash the patriarchy. (And likes fun goofy dragons.)

This was my favorite of the series so far. It was incredibly funny and the writing is getting much more fine tuned. The art is great and did I mention it's really funny? The main characters are strong females and even the prince wants to buck the norms. There are still moments of beat-you-over-the-head-with-it anti-patriarchal society, but it's worth it. And I just found out Raven the Pirate Princess has her own graphic novel, and a local library should have a copy! Yes!

i am so fond of devin, the king really needs to take a step back to consider what amazing children he's blessed with and quit trying to push them into his tiny boring gender role boxes. i mean honestly, if i had a son who was clever and curious and a talented seamster i would be bursting with pride! i would never shut up about either of them! i'd be the embarrassing mom who's like and this is my girl adrienne, did you know what a talented swordfighter she is, hold on, i've got video for you. and do you see this awesome dress i'm wearing? devin made it! MY KIDS ARE SO GREAT

moving on! this volume goes back to the main quest and brings us to adrienne's sister, angoisse. she is stuck in a swamp which is probably right beside a hot topic. you never see one on the page but she's got to be getting the goth clothes from somewhere right? adventures happen and sparky in particular makes a good showing. 4 stars

If Adrienne & Bedelia don't kiss soon I will scream. The Grimmorax is adorable, I want 5 of them. Would've given this 5 stars if we'd didn't get to meet Angoisse near the end of the volume. I'd been really excited to meet my gothic vamp princess; hopefully this won't be the last time. Also wish we'd got to see Raphael get eaten by the zombies but I'll take what I can get. Can't wait to read the next installment!!
