i really enjoyed the plot but didn't find the writing to be that good, hard to get into it

Had premise, and the idea was good, but the execution fell flat. It may improve towards the end, but honestly I DNF. The characters were alright, but the Curators felt a little like the author had a case of whatever the writing equivalent of same face syndrome is in art. Also, the Curators having a base in Egypt? Felt a little bit insensitive, given Egypt is one of the most looted countries on the planet.

The romance was also rather yucky. Another case of "Character A has no interest in relationships, never have never will. Until they meet Character B." Honestly would've been more interesting if Neith and Julius didn't get together and it explored their friendship instead of their 'budding' relationship. Also, Julius read like an aromantic character, and then got into a relationship?

Overall, a decent book, but the plot definitely could've been accomplished better especially with it having such a good base.

If you enjoy time travel, alternate earth, kick-ass female characters with a side of humour then you’ll enjoy this book.

At its heart, it’s a mystery/adventure novel about a team of cross-dimensional time-travelling curators who rescue art on the other earth before it is destroyed. There is a wonderful unexpected humour throughout the book and as a heritage geek, I enjoyed the references to cataloguing and the world of academia. The ending certainly got me hooked enough to immediately download the next book.

A slightly slow start introducing the characters, but once it picked up it was gripping. Intriguing concepts and a diverse, interesting group of characters. Looking forward to the next book already!

A very cool concept which relies top heavily on info dumping telling rather than showing. I definitely understand the comparisons to The Chronicles of St Mary's, but it's lacking some of the magic for me personally (perhaps because the narrative is much more straightforward without some of the delight of historical detail and B plot shenanigans?) along with the writing itself not being particularly good. Add onto that, it's patently obvious why elements of the mission are going wrong and the pacing is relatively slow so swathes of this short book felt like a bit of a slog. That said, I can see the potential this series holds so I think I will give the second book a go and see if the writing and plotting steps up a notch!
