Halfway through reading this book I called my friend and said "I don't understand why the Alpha Earth people want this egg, but I think I must have just missed something in the audiobook because it has to have been explained somehow."
Then I got on Goodreads that night and saw this in a review:
The answer is: nope, you didn't miss it. It just doesn't make sense.
I think I would have read the next one (which by all reviews seems to be better) except that the audiobook readers are so excruciating to listen to that I could barely get through this one. No thanks, no thanks, no thanks.

Which brings me to the Alpha/Beta Earth thing. I didn't care. It made the plot messy and unnecessarily complicated and didn't seem to do more than create a reason for people to be after the egg. Only it didn't? If you came out the other end of this knowing why Alpha Earth cared about relics from another Earth I'm going to need you to explain it to me. These artefacts don't give you any fancy powers, they're not really worth money on Alpha Earth because it's so peace loving and science focused and there's no famine and war and its basically full of a bunch of shiny happy people that would drive me insane.

Might have been a different experience if I read it. Wasn’t a fan of the narration style. Story was solid enough.
super quick-paced sci-fi i didn’t know i needed. i’m definitely committing to this series as long as eva st. john keeps writing it.

*Series review * 5 Books in 1*
I think the 3rd and 4th books could have been spread throughout the others and reduced the series to 4 books without much loss. Otherwise - excellent series. Good for grownups without being crude, MCs were late 20s, early 30s, no YA drama. The world building was excellent, the saga & mystery connecting the books kept me enthralled as I read all 5 books in 2 days. Unique and fleshed out characters, good side story & filler. The multiverse or parallelverse is always a fun ride, and controlled crossings by one earth into the other without their knowledge or consent had a lot of interesting nuance. Good perspective. The tech gear really got into my head for these, very clear visualizations. The names were strange to me, but not distractingly so. Would definitely read more by this author, in or out of this world.

3.5 fun time travel story. St. Mary's ish but not quite as good.
