I grew up outside of the US and have been a huge fan of Tintin since childhood, so I am pleased to see that these wonderful stories are becoming more widely known in this country since the recent release of “The Adventures of Tintin” movie.
Hergé, a Belgian artist, wrote 23 books from 1929 – 1975 about Tintin, the brave young reporter who travels the world, and his faithful fox terrier dog Snowy (Milou in the original French). There are several other characters who regularly appear in the books - the brash and cynical Captain Haddock, the highly intelligent but hearing-impaired Professor Calculus (Professeur Tournesol) and the incompetent detectives Thomson and Thompson (Dupont et Dupond), among others.
A couple of other books were added to the original 23 - one unfinished work, published posthumously, and another which was based on a film called “Tintin and the Lake of Sharks.”
So…which book to review?!! I love all of them…ok, all except one or two.
I’ve chosen “The Secret of the Unicorn” only because it is one of the three books upon which the Spielberg movie was based. In this book, Tintin finds a model of the ship “The Unicorn” at an old street market and winds up getting kidnapped by crooks. Can he escape and discover the Unicorn’s secret? Read the book to find out! You'll be delighted by Hergé's detailed, well-researched artwork and fun, adventurous tales. -- Jess O.

I've always been particularly partial to this book, and its sequel, Red Rackham's Treasure, so I was very glad they incorporated it into the movie. Captain Haddock is of course hilarious and the running gags -- the Thom(p)sons and their hats, the pickpocket, the Captain's drink -- were all excellently timed from start to finish. Another favourite in this series.

Olen lukenut tämänkin albumin aikoinani ja muistin pätkiä sieltä täältä. Toisaalta muistot sekoittuivat tästä ja seuraavasta kirjasta tehtyyn elokuvaan

I absolutely adored this.
It was such a cute and entertaining read. The art is so great and so glad I finally read the original as I love the 2011 film so much. I will definitely be trying to get my hands on more volumes of this.
