Been following Grant Snider for awhile online so had to get his book. So creative with his drawings! Really enjoyed it.

Some pages were nicely depicted specially liked the book fair and amusement park ones, others I found myself skimming through sometimes
lighthearted relaxing

This is one of those books that seem really interesting at first glance and seem even more interesting when you flip through them, only to bring them home and realize the three pages you already read are the only really good pages in the whole book. I thought this book would appeal to me more than it actually did, because I, too, enjoy judging people's bookshelves. I like seeing how people arrange their books, whether it's by color, author, title, genre, or, if you are a psychopath, in no real order. I also like seeing what books people have so that I can make a mental list of the books I want to buy for myself. Although one think that Snider stresses that I would not do is letting people borrow your books. A good half of my books are secondhand and already ratty, but I am too nervous to let people borrow them, and I REFUSE to lend people my new books. People could crack the spines (yes I'm one of those people who don't open my books more than an inch) or, god forbid, read a hardcover book with the dust jacket ON.

The book itself was not anything special at all. The whole book is the same couple of formats of jokes and drawing repeated until the author reached the required number of pages. Some of them seemed heartfelt and personal, and some of them felt lazy, a bit rushed, and incredibly basic. Books about books are great, but when the comments you make about books are as generic as they are in this book, there's only so much you can say. My Mom is a school librarian and she actually has a poster with one of this book's pages on it. It was nice to see it in this book, but the thing itself was not very special. It was just saying that "books are wings and stars and stuff" which are the things we already hear from literally every single English teacher. As someone who has graduated grade school I think I stand for most people when I say that that kind of stuff does not make you want to read. It only makes you want to puke with secondhand embarrassment.

I also found myself getting really bored as I was reading it. By the halfway mark I feel like everything the author was trying to say had already been said, and it felt like the same comments were being repeated over and over again. Every few pages I kept checking to see how far away I was from the end, and it only made the reading experience feel more sluggish. In reality it probably didn't take me more than 40 minutes to read, but it was not a very pleasurable 40 minutes. And I couldn't say that the drawings were particularly interesting as well. They were very simple and look like they took 1o seconds to do. It was a cute style for a little while, but it just felt boring and bland after a while. I really don't like critiquing the artwork in graphic novels, but it really didn't help the book's case.

Usually I can think of a few more things to say in my reviews, but with this one I can't think of much else. It happened, it didn't blow me away, and the only reason I didn't rate it two stars was because I don't feel like it deserved it. It wasn't great, I wouldn't even say it was mediocrely average, but it wasn't offensive enough for me to have much of an opinion. It happened, I read this book that I was staring at for a few weeks, it didn't take me that long to finish, and it happened. That's all I can say about it: it happened.

A new reading experience. This book is full of literary puns and reading/writing terms. The comics were cute, I liked the illustration style. There was alot referenced that went over my head that I'm sure I would have enjoyed more if I recognized them all.

This was cute and fun! A bunch of nice, quirky comics all about bookish things. It did get pretty repetitive, but overall it’s a good read!

 I smiled, I laughed, I ginned ruefully.
Snider displays tremendous self awareness as he speaks about readers, writers and anyone who has or wants a relationship with the written word. Read it on the Kindle App, which was also a great reading experience.

I've enjoyed Snider's comics for a while so of course I was excited to see a collection of book- and writing-related comics released. This was just the pick-me-up I needed. The comics are sometimes sweet, sometimes funny, sometimes wry or tongue-in-cheek, and often punny. I would definitely recommend for anyone who loves words, writing, and/or books.
