A variable collection of horror stories that all fall into the sapphic villain theme. I appreciated the diversity within, even if some stories weren't for me. My favorites were "Gladys Glows at Night", "Buckskin for Linen", "Conversations with Roe", "Ungrateful Dead Things", "Straight Flush", and "Enamored".

Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I definitely liked some more than others. I don't know that I'd use the word "villain" for some of these stories.

My 3 star rating is because of personal preferences. I am NOT a dark fantasy person and the purple/romantic prose that it is usually associated with the genre does not appeal to me. And I'd say about a 1/3rd of this collection was Dark Fantasy. There's also a lot of erotica, cannibalism, and murder. Sometimes all three combined. The lagniappe at the end by Eric Raglin was a fun story but had basically nothing to do with the overall theme, and I think that space could've been used for another story by BIPOC or a woman-identifying author.

That said, I enjoyed the more contemporary stories and the Gothic.

My favorites:
You Oughta Be In Pictures by Anastasia Dziekan
Conversations with Roe by Alex Luceli Jiménez
The Turner House Heritage Tour by Caitlin Marceau

There were some quite good stories in this collection, but most were meh to mediocre.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a unique reading experience. I can say each story had a life and voice of it's own and my favorite part of reading Scissor Sisters was how each author told their story. There is not one tale that resembles another, even if they all share sapphic villains as main characters. Quite refreshing to see so many original and passionate works.
My favorites were "Teroma, Cacodaemon, Erinya", by Avra Margariti and "Oubliette", by L. R. Stuart.

Anthologies can be hit or miss but I liked almost all of these! Some of them were pretty dark

Scissors Sisters is a sapphic horror and dark fantasy anthology that is brimming with richness. I typically struggle with anthologies because I only like a couple stories but this was not the case for this one.
Every story held my interest. Each story felt tied together in tone and energy while still giving the reader lots of variety. Super well done!

Do you like vengeful sapphics? Of course you do. Then I urge you to read this gorgeous anthology of sapphic villains. All of the stories are dark and moody, but a few completely swept me away. I’m still thinking about “Pilgrim of Worlds” a month after reading. Wow.

Thanks to Brigidsgate Press sending me the ebook ARC and indulging my queer horror phase.
