This book caps off a really spectacular series. I love Raine. She's a heroine type that I would like to see more of - generally, she's as clever as the reader (I hate when we figure things out waaaaaaaay before the characters, it makes them seem dense), she's brave and loyal, strong but not ludicrously so (yes, she's got god-like powers, but she really can't use them... and that's not just lip service in this series - she really CAN'T use them, because using them corrupts her). It makes for an all-around great lead.

That lead is complemented by a very compelling secondary cast (I truly love them all, from Mychael and Tam, through to Phaelan and the other Benares clan members, to Vegard and her other loyal friends) and a really interesting world with complicated politics.

I enjoyed this series so much I literally read books 5 and 6 in a single day. I just couldn't stop!

Okay, so finally - a conclusion. This is the one that really wraps up the loose ends and has something happen, namely
Spoilerthe destruction of the Saghred
. The plotting continues to be kind of hit or miss along the way;
Spoilerthe heroes stubbornly refuse to kill Carnades despite his literally attacking them at various points; the villains all continue to be over-the-top stupid in their plots which is handwaved away with the explanation that they are "crazy"; at one point they are literally saved by old man farts
, but you don't read this series for the plots - you read them because they are fun and easy and the characters are entertaining. Like a romance novel, it's kind of like being wrapped in a warm blanket. You know that nothing too terrible is going to happen and the bad guys are all obviously evil.

The end. I am sad, and happy. Sad that is' over. Happy that it did not drag out and turn bad, I hate when a series does that.

The stone is gone, they need to destroy it so they go to Goblin land. Seriously, I need a pic of a goblin, the whole grey and pointy teeth thing and super hot. I need an image here. I can imagine it, and not.

Right, hot goblins, no that was not what I was supposed to say. Team Tam! But we all know Team Tam has been doing badly and been forgotten now for a few books. Sad. She is all Mycheal and I am all whatevs. Fine, they suit each other and will live happily ever after. Just, sexy goblin!

Forget Tam now. Ok, but it's hard!

Anyway. Destroy the stone. Kill some goblins. Survive. Be happy. I liked how it all ended :)

Team Tam! Oh come on, stop that now. Team, TAM! Sigh. ;)

This was an okay finish to the story arc- it wasn't terrible but it felt fairly predictable in places.

The last book that perfectly concludes this series =)
The situation has never been so dramatic for Raine Benares: no Saghred, no power and Sarad Nukpana about to launch his major offensive. There is only one hope : go to the goblin capital and destroy themselves the Saghred. Except that it's easier said than done ...
I liked a little less the last books of the series but ultimately, I loved this last book =) The style is still great, the story is gaining in intensity to finally end in fireworks and the characters are just SO great x)
Raine has no power but she still continues to do everything to protect and save those she loves with her little dirty tricks =)
I absolutely loved meeting the former professor of Tam (the thing with the cheese was just awesome ><) and Tam's family was scary but just so AWESOME (I would have loved to see how they survived the teenage years of Tam and Nath =D). I enjoyed seeing the prince Chigaru again (stupid, impulsive but also chivalrous ... It's a miracle that he happened to survive so far =)) and his fiancee, and of course I'm a huge fan of Nukpana. It's just THE big bad villain just like I love: evil, sexy and completely psychotic x)
In short, a awesome and perfect end =D

The sixth in a fairly interminable series, which started with some original ideas but has become formulaic. The proof-reading and editing are poor, too, so I'd say this is only for hard-core readers. This seems to bring the sequence to a climax, with some satisfying conclusions to certain characters, but there is apparently a seventh, which will probably be a step too far for me.

Raine's long journey to defeat the Saghred is finally coming to a head. With some of her most loyal friends and allies beside her and without her magic she sets out to destroy the Saghred once and for all for her freedom and to protect those she loves.

It was a bit weird to have Raine with out her magic but in the end she proves that she can still kick butt. I have always enjoyed the world building of this series and after being on the Isle of Mid so long it was nice to have a new place to get to explore and learn about. The Goblins are an interesting race in Shearin's series and it was great to see how they do things and see them in action. ALL SPELL BREAKS LOOSE moves at a fast pace, the characters are always on the move and their is plenty of action and heart pounding moments. My favorite characters came out alive and on top so their isn't much to complain about.

All in all I was happy with the way things ended for the series. All the loose strings were tied up nicely and Raine is on a path to live a nice happily ever after.

An absolutely brilliant finish to the series. The entire series has been a joy to read.I picked it up on a recommendation and I'm so glad I did.I've laughed (outloud to the disapproving glares from my fellow public transport users),I've cried,I've drooled over Mychael and Tam,I've cheered over certain characters (Raine,Raines family,Justinius,Kesyn etc). This was the perfect end to the adventure.Everything was resolved in a brilliant manner.I cant wait to see what Lisa Shearin comes out with next.
