If the entire book is going to a retelling of what happened in the series so far, at least give Kieran’s point of view. Just Casteel’s didn’t add anything we didn’t already know.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Soulful Journey Through Love and Memory
Review for A Soul of Ash and Blood (Blood and Ash #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
This installment is a truly emotional and beautifully crafted addition to the Blood and Ash series. With Poppy in stasis, we experience much of the story through Casteel’s point of view, as he speaks to her in hopes that she’ll remember their love and life together when she awakens.
Jennifer L. Armentrout does an incredible job of weaving past and present, allowing us to revisit pivotal moments in Cas and Poppy’s relationship—this time from his perspective. It’s a heartfelt tribute to Cas’s deep love, devotion, and gratitude for Poppy.
Beyond the emotional depth, this book also pushes the series plot forward, offering fresh insight into character development and the ongoing saga. It’s the perfect setup for the final book in the series, and that cliffhanger left me absolutely counting down the days until September’s release!
Highly recommended for fans of the series—you’ll fall even more in love with Cas and be fully immersed in the emotional and narrative build-up to the epic conclusion.

A Soul of Ash and Blood was everything I wanted and more! Getting the story through Casteel’s perspective brought a whole new depth to the world Jennifer L. Armentrout has built. Seeing his thoughts and emotions during those pivotal moments with Poppy gave me an even greater appreciation for their bond.
I loved how Cas retold the journey that began in From Blood and Ash while in the present he and Poppy prepare for the next step of their future together. It felt like a love letter to the series and is an intimate retelling mixed with a continuation of their story. The banter between them was still sharp and witty, but what stood out most was the raw vulnerability we see from Cas. His fears, his unshakable devotion to Poppy, and the way he would do absolutely anything for her were so powerful.
We also get glimpses of the side characters we’ve come to love like Kieran, Tawny, and even moments with Vikter—that made the retelling feel fresh instead of repetitive. Seeing those scenes through Cas’s eyes hit differently, sometimes in heartbreaking ways, and sometimes with even more humor.
This book reminded me why I fell in love with this series to begin with. It’s romantic, emotional, and full of heart, while also setting the stage beautifully for what’s still to come. Cas and Poppy’s love story is truly one for the ages, and I adored every page.

I am completely thrown off by the direction this entry in the series took. As much as I appreciate a Casteel POV, this felt like a filler book while the plot was still being developed. The story itself was fantastic, but after cliff hanger after cliff hanger, this wasn't what I was looking forward too. The end plot twist is still extremely confusing and I'm not sure if I'm accepting how it was explained.
Okay, so reading this whole book in one freaking sitting was a bad idea. I tell you why : 1) I didn't eat the whole day and it got me a terrible headache. 2) i realised I had to wait another year for another book to drop .
I loved this book ( obviously), we get to read the events of the first book from Hawks POV , and it's so different from Poppy's POV, and more interesting to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I love my queen with all my heart, but in this book, we get to discover the real and dark side of the Ascendants , there was action, mystery, plottings and murders and I am here for it !
What I enjoyed most is that we get to meet Poppy for the second time from another point of view, it's like getting to really know her. Also Hawk going from Calling her the Maiden, to Penelaphe to finally Poppy describes how his feeling towards her were slowly changing and affirming. He first underestimated her, thought she was just a brain washed puppy who supports the Ascendants, then when he became her guard, he realised she was a good person, a generous strong and brave woman who went through a lot . And then, well you know how it went for them XD.
Of course Delano and Kieran are sweethearts, Delano being called Marshmallow by Elijah is so cute XO Jennifer if you do them any harm, you would responsible of my death.
I however wish this book was bigger, I can't accept the ending for real ( Someone sign a petition for Jennifer to deliver us a poppy cas novella each month Pleaaase). But also I wish she wrote about the changing in both Solis and Atlantia, I mean I know for sure this is what we will get in the next book, but I just hope that she won't dismiss all the political issues and solely focus on the romance ( don't get me wrong, I can read a thousands pages book of Cas and Poppy just being fluff and all, but I love a good plot, and more than all, I love a good tragedy...jk jk)
Anyway, if you thought I am going to give this book less than five stars you'd be wrong, I am a huge fan of these series, I am OBSESSED with these series, if I could give them one thousand stars I would.

Disappointed that it was mostly a retelling of book 1 from Cassian's POV.
Some tidbits were fun from his POV. Enjoyed the content in-between the retelling.
