ok i only read the present chapters and the first few flashback chapters but i’m counting it as reading the whole 500+ pages because i actually already read this exact story believe it or not. not a great decision by jla to retell book 1 from cas’s perspective almost literally word for word. it comes off that she rewrote it to try to fill in plot holes regarding cas’s story and the kieran subplot and other lore but it’s the same story and almost the exact same dialogue. like just don’t release a book girl i promise waiting longer for the next book with actual new substance would be better than THIS. now idk if i want to keep reading this series at all because this book left a bad taste in my mouth :/ it’s giving money grab. we could’ve instead had a simple novella with a similar premise but nooooo here’s 500+ pages of the same story you already read. boooooo

Uffff, a retelling of the first book? The one I liked the least? I already went into this book with low expectations and sadly they were kinda met. I thought we'd get mostly new scenes of Cas' experiences and some repeated scenes, which would be fine, but most scenes were just retellings from his pov, which was honestly kinda boring. Some scenes added some value and depth to their story and they portrayed the conflict he felt while falling for Poppy pretty well. Others were just boring and it feels like this book could've been WAY shorter for what it was. If you're asking yourself if you should read it, maybe just skip the retelling chapters and only read the "Present ..." ones to gain more input.
