I loved this book. I even think it is better then Twilight! It had so much more adventure and mystery. It is definetly a series i would reccomend.

Okay so I kinda prefer the tv show but that might be because that is what I’m used to.
It wasn’t that exciting because I obviously already know what Stefan was and that the mystery man was Damon.
I have to say Elena isn’t my favourite the amount of times they had to mention her blonde her or her saying she’s the queen of the school and just her telling Stefan she loved him after zero conversation. And Stefan Crying about Katherine whilst it has been five hundred years it didn’t feel right.

So the things that happened were
Stefan got to the school
Elena goes to the cemetery and something weird happens
Elena wanted him but he ignored her
She goes to this school dance but Caroline shows up with Stefan so Elena goes crazy and goes to the cemetery with Tyler there Tyler forces himself on her but Stefan comes to the rescue and then she loves him
So Elena and Stefan become a thing but Damon came to visit her twice
After that Stefan reveals his Katherine secret to Elena
In the end there is a Damon Stefan show off and in the end you see that Stefan is gone and Elena is searching for Damon
I must say I wish that there was more of Caroline in this book the rivalry between them seemed very interesting and not something only to be mentioned in like three sentences
Also the Meredith Margaret names confused me so much they’re too similar

For notes I made:
I noticed that here he came to the school not because he knew that Katherine’s doppelgänger was there but just by chance
I laughed about Matt’s last name like Honeycutt I know I shouldn’t compare it too much to the tv show but I couldn’t help myself

Some good quotes:
She didn’t exactly know what to do with herself. Now that she finally could cry, she found that the tears wouldn’t come
She didn’t want company, and yet she was acting lonely

So for the three stars it was enjoyable and an easy read it was entertaining but none of the characters made an impression on me I think I liked Caroline and Damon most but they had a small role. There also were some cringe moments like the different last names and her mentioning she is the queen of the school was just a bit iffy. It was just a bit of an average read.

I don't understand the hype with this one. I like vampires but I did not like this book.

Okay so, despite not making it through the TV series, I thought I'd give this book a try.

I really did try. But with characters that have the personality of cardboard it was difficult for me to find any way to connect with them. I wasn't overwhelmed with the writing style either.

I’m not too sure what to rate this book. My 13 year old self prob would have loved it and raved 5 stars…but at 40 I was cringing and laughing out loud at this ridiculousness, while listening to the audio.

Where to start well I’ve watched the show and loved it back in the day My 14 year old daughter is also a fan of the show and I thought wouldn’t it be fun to read these together…I could only get the audio from the Libby app so we started it together and right away i found myself just shaking my head NOOO!! Why would they do the terrible Mario brothers Italian accents for the brothers…hence no more audio readings of these if i can help it lol

On to the writing style and these characters…now Idk if it’s because I love the show that i found myself soooo annoyed by the characters but bless the show for understanding the necessary changes. Elena is by far the most irritating character in this book super conceited and snobby, not to mention delulu.

Let’s talk for a second about the love no I’m sorry obsession at first sight she has on Stefan. Holy stalker…blood bonds in graveyards with your bffs for them to assist you on winning the heart of this complete stranger at all costs. Um wtf hahaha hope there’s not any impressionable young girls out there thinking this is ok behavior 😂😂😂

All of this being said I hate to admit I was entertained and I’m about to start the next book …what is wrong with me lol I’ll blame it on nostalgia I guess oh and for some bonding time with my daughter (we will be discussing the dangers of stalking and blood bonds for sure 🤮) all in all I’m leaning on a 2.5 ⭐️
