I read this after The Black Witch and loved making all the connections to the families in that book. I feel like the writing in this book was better than The Black Witch! I am obsessed with Tessla and Vale and wish this novella was a full blown book about them because I want more!

I honestly don’t know if I recommend reading this book before or after The Black Witch. It takes place before The Black Witch’s timeline and gives some past history which is nice. I think you can’t go wrong with way.

This is the book about Ellorens parents and everything they do to set their kids up for what they become in the main series as the parents are already dead by the start of the series. This gives some more background about the older characters in the series
