Overall, I enjoyed the story being told, but the way it was written became a bit confusing to me. There were also points that I felt were not needed in relation to the bigger picture of the relationship between the girl and the man. The details about her mother and brothers were not important to understand the relationship, but I do concur it was needed to be able to assess the economic differences.

I usually enjoy this kind of stream-of-consciousness narrative, but here it is nearly impossible to follow the narrative. That might be because the narrative is very slowly paced, and nothing much happens for large stretches of time. The book does provide some interesting commentary, but overall it was not a good experience.

For example, the main character's sexual relationship which is consensual, but would still be considered pedophilia, and the fact that the supporting characters react more to the relationship being interracial (rather than the age difference)
