3.7 stars to be precise. This was a decent YA fantasy book, not my normal genre, but enjoyable all the same. Started out very strong and some parts had me hooked. The only reason I've not rated it higher is because it took me a while to finish and didn't really get fully into it. I'm still wanting to read the rest of the series!

This was just meh. It wasn't bad but there was nothing interesting about it.
Most of the book was super slow and repetitive. And then it picked up for the last little bit and got (slightly) interesting. I won't be reading the next books because this book just didn't hold my interest (that's the problem with a "setup" book in a series).

3.5 stars... Solid story, still I missed something. However I am curious enough to go on with this trilogy and start the second book soon.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this book. After hearing several not-great reviews from trusted friends, I was reluctant to pick up a copy. Last Christmas though, my mum bought me the whole series (second hand from a friend's daughter who hadn't enjoyed them so much).
I started the book with a feeling of apprehension, but I'm actually genuinely enjoying the series so far, and am actually quite delighted to have the rest of the series already in my possession.

Really enjoyed this. It's an easy to follow fantasy with loveable characters.

I loved reading this and I certainly did not expect it! This was just a book that I found in the library and it looked interesting so I decided to read it. I haven't done that in a while. Especially with the fact that the outcome would be positive. This happened after at least several years.
Sonea was a likeable character, as well as Cery, Rothen or Dannyl. Rothen actually reminded me a bit of the mentor character in my own book and I really enjoyed reading about him.
The story, or plot-line would be better to say, was quite simple. At times I felt there wasn't really much happening but I didn't mind.
The only complaint I have is why hadn't at least told about Fergun to Rothen? He certainly would have understood and they'd find a way out and she wouldn't have to lie.
