I have a Harry-Potter-sized hole in my heart after all the, ya know, reasons I'm not eager to give JK Rowling money these days have come to light. So I started looking around for other "fantasy magic school" trope books to see where else that fun premise can lead to some fun stories.

Holy cow, this manga (and anime!) is adorable. The worldbuilding and politics are genuinely interesting even for this manga that's on parody-par almost with One Punch Man. Yeah, One Punch Man meets Harry Potter is an accurate way to describe this, but it genuinely doesn't feel like a ripoff of either of those stories. They use the same tropes yes, but the plots, the lessons the characters learn, and the ways the characters connect and form bonds are all totally different.

It's hard to write a "flat, emotionless" character in an interesting way, but I'm DEEPLY invested in Mash's goals and his ability to problem-solve in creative ways. I love the message about how it's not enough to have a society of talented magic-users, we need people of all abilities to contribute in different ways.

Can't wait to keep reading!
