If you’re easily offended by anything, I think you should read a different book. This read is bold, direct and uses language most people nowadays can’t handle. If you have a bit of distance to yourself and are open minded enough to read something that you might find uncomfortable, you’ll find an excellent book that makes you think and lets you see a different perspective on some things.
I do not agree with everything that’s written in this book. There are certain things I really was surprised by. Still, it’s probably one of the best books I’ve ever read in this category and I wish I’ve read it earlier in my life.

I had to read this book for a class (which I had to take to get my degree but the class contributed literally nothing), and I hated every page of it.

Manson seems to be trying to justify his poor behavior and negative outlook on life in this book - even going as far as to tell a mourning father (his son died in a horrific vehicular accident) that his response to his son’s death was 100% his choice and he was wrong for being so negatively impacted by the loss of his son.

While life does suck sometimes, it’s definitely not as bad as Manson tries to claim it is, and I really feel bad for how miserably he’s living his life. One’s mindset drives ~90% of how they view their life. To have such a pessimistic view on things really makes my heart heavy.

I found this book to be a good summary for many other books that I have read but it's a tiresome read for me. I much preferred other books that went into detail on the same points (The Earned Life, Four Thousand Weeks, etc) and didn't have to resort to language to make a point. Still, I recognize there is an audience for this book.

I came very close to just not finishing this book, but, I bought it, so I felt obligated to finish it.
Somewhere around 40% through, it just didn't seem to be as interesting. By then, the novelty of cussing in a self-help book wore off, and it was harder to pay attention to the ranting. One thing though: the author does make excellent use of anecdotes, save for the
Romeo and Juliet
one, though the work would also largely benefit from not just saying X and Y happened, but maybe showing some data or citations or anything to add credibility. Some of the jokes are distasteful - I know, dark humor, but it's not even very funny. Dark humor is supposed to funny. Some of the things written felt more like they were added for shock value, and it largely took away from the experience.
I must say, the final chapter did really wrap up nicely. Not because it was almost over, but because the author wrote about the topic in a way that one could tell was highly personal and with depth. Though the final chapter didn't make up for the other 40% that didn't land well with me, it was a somewhat satisfying end to the book.
Overall, I wouldn't reread or recommend this book, personally. Despite the hype and recommendations I received in regards to this book, it didn't live up to it.

as an avid overthinker, i didn't believe this book could possibly tell or teach me anything i didn't already know. that this would be another one of those generic "stay positive and don't act like an asshole!" type of self-help books, but oh my goodness, was i wrong.

hilarious and actually genuine, this book is packed with truthful advice and helpful anecdotes about how to deal with life and all of the stupid shit that worries us way too much on a day-to-day basis.

and if you're thinking: "my life is going great, i don't need a self-help book" then you're 1) probably not even reading this, and 2) very wrong. this one is for everyone, not only for the depressed, the sad, the hopeless. this book is for everyone, because it talks about how we as humans and individuals can become better at dealing with our bullshit and start giving less fucks about unimportant, time-consuming subjects.

everyone should read this book. end of story.

I'm actually glad to have finished this book and not dropped it halfway through. The reviews I read were not quite positive, but for me personally, it's a book that I will keep with me. It gave me insight on some subjects and I don't regret reading nor buying this.

Mark Manson really challenges the reader by bringing uncomfortable topics and various thoughts to the light. This book is brutally honest and jarring at times. However, it obvious how much thought was put into every word. Even if you dont agree, he is brilliant.

Very refreshing book with a shit ton of useful wisdoms. I don't think I've ever marked more parts in a book (e-book, don't worry ;)).
Will definitely revisit this book in the future and I honestly already feel different about myself since reading this book and it's been like two weeks since I started it.
I definitely recommend this book (to everyone!), even those who hate self-help books because I feel like this one shows a new kind of energy that doesn't just tell you what you want to hear whilst hiding behind fakeness. It felt very real and I appreciated that.

Was a little bit repetitive at some points but asides from that it really was the type of book I 'needed' to read right now.
