I think the message regarding marginalization in the workplace is crucial, I just wasn’t a fan of the way it was actually constructed. The writing wasn’t bad at all, it was just very millennial for me in terms of the language used hence 2 *

The story was a good quick read.
I do not recommend the audio version, where the narrator, Arden Cho, does a “blaccent” for some of the characters, which is an…interesting choice.

This piece - the first installment in the Amazon original series “Currency” - is the quintessential modern-era example of Stephen King’s philosophy that a good short story is more difficult to write than a novel of equal quality. It’s a bit too short to say much at all without including spoilers, so just know this: it deserves all five stars, and I plan to read everything ever written by Kiley Reid if at all possible. Unflinching and exquisite.
