The story of two sisters, Tanya and Geena, living in Bournville, Birmingham and what happens when their Indian-born father is subject to a racist attack; and what becomes of Tanya and her personal life and Geena and her creative life. The setting worked very well for me as it has with Katharine D'Souza's previous novels and I can place the jeweller's shop very accurately in that parade of shops near the chocolate factory as well as picturing the other locations such as the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Jewellery Quarter.I was drawn along by the story and the characters. This author's third novel sees her once more giving us a sympathetic portrayal of Birmingham and its people as well as involving us in her characters' personal lives and aspirations The title is good - 'no place like home' becoming 'this is no place like home'? But while her father is unsettled Tanya has aspirations to many places, she wants to see the world. Does she? Read it and find out.
- I do have FlightRadar24 (which Tanya uses in the book)! It's probably more use in Birmingham than London because the skies aren't so crowded.
- Geena's design evoking the Library of Birmingham: I like that. Many people would have been tempted to involve a white elephant though...
- No 'where are you really from'? Less likely in Birmingham I hope as it is a very well integrated city.
