This was a very short and sweet novel, giving background to a side character from book 2 of stormlight archive, lift is very funny and I'm super intrigued to see her develop her powers and take her oaths

Cute little novella that adds some good character background but nothing that blew me away. I find Lift half amusing and half annoying.

Lift is one of my favorites and I'm so glad she got her own novella.

Cute and adventurous. Lift is a pancake-loving 13 year old who is the main character of this novella.
I originally wasn't sure if I actually needed to read this before Oathbringer, and I'm still unsure of the implications and importance of the events yet. Things came together mostly at the 80% mark. This really is a novella meant to introduce you to Lift and her Spren Wyndle.
I wouldn't say Lift is my favorite character, but she is spunky and fun to read about. Wondering how she will fit into the full series later.
Mostly listened to this on audiobook while multitasking, so I didn't find it hard to get through.

On first read in 2017: 5 stars. That was starvin' awesome. My favorite from Arcanum Unbounded. I've really come to love Lift as a character, which surprises me because I found her obnoxious in her Words of Radiance interlude. But the development in this was just lovely. I can't wait for Oathbringer this fall!

I knew I didn't like Lift, and that it would be a bit annoying to slog through. But I wasn't expecting to dread trying to finish this either. The fatphobia and the ableism were very very hard to read through. And because I have been listening to more audiobooks, they are more glaring and obvious - i can't skim over and pretend my favorite authors aren't casually horrible. It was tough.

I'm tired of primarily white fantasy authors leaning heavily on disability, particularly learning disability or Down's Syndrome as a way to show Tolerance and Intolerance and deal with Otherness. The way they are described is always so tropeful and harmful, since the authors are trying not to use any science words. It's just upsetting.

Thousands of disabled people are killed by the hands of their carers every day. It's a terrifying and unacknowledged genocide. It should not be used as a casual plot point. I'm tired of it.

Less important, hearing someone read aloud the inane shit Lift says makes it sound as inane as it is. I was gonna scream if i heard another "starvin'"
