really good book!! at first it was really focusing on the paranormal side of things, but then the paranormal seemed to take the backseat to the romance plot. i just wished it was even, but nontheless, very good!

So...
For starters, this was a very beautiful book full of apparently beautiful characters (seriously, everyone's really good looking I think). This is the story of Mara (or not, since she reveals in the beginning of the story that this is just her pseudonym). She has awaken to find that she doesn't remember much. It turns out that she was involved in a building collapse. Unlike her friends, she did not die. "Mara" is still traumatized and she and her family move to Miami in order to have a fresh start.
Sike.
Unfortunately, for "Mara" things just start getting worse. She starts seeing images of things that are not here (otherwise known as hallucinations) and getting into trouble. One day she finds this dog and realizes that she is being abused. "Mara" imagines the cruel owner dying a violent death...and a few minutes later, he does. Other events occur. "Mara" meets this guy named....darn what's his name? Well he's the brotha with the dreads. I liked him. She also meets Noah, this British guy who is apparently to die for. Blah Blah.
I liked this book enough. It was very pretty, like I said. That's really the only reason I put it on my to-read shelf a few months ago. But see, when I read the synopsis for it, I was thinking it would be kind of like The Maze Runner . Unlike what some of the authors said on the back of this book, I didn't find it very scary. I didn't find it to be very paranormal, either. To be perfectly honest, I don't think the author of this book knew exactly what she wanted this book to BE. I think it's more of a romance; a good romance at that. Paranormal...not so much. This is only because for most of the book I wasn't really sure what "Mara's" power was. It seemed kind of thrown in.
Needless to say, I liked all of the male characters in the story (except Jude, of course. Ew). I'm not sure how a sequel would do since the ending sucked. Why does everyone have to do trilogies? *rolling eyes*

I was expecting more from this book, I had heard a lot of good comments about it. Not what I was looking for. There were entertaining moments but also a lot of boring ones, I kept thinking about just finishing it.
This was okay, I think I would have loved this book when I was younger but I'm not too interested in following on with the series now. Defiantly a good read for Young Adults/Teenagers 😄
Wow! Amazing! I loved the writing style and how you could never tell what was real and what was Mara imagining things. That last chapter blew my mind!

I've seen a lot of bad reviews on this book, and I guess I can understand why. As far as the romance plot goes it is similar to a lot of other YA books. Good girl falls in love with bad boy that's slept with just about everything with legs. Bad boy is moody and makes offhand comments to said girl. The difference is Mara doesn't take his bs, she dishes what he gives to her right back and I loved that. But aside from that there is way more to the book. There is a lot done in this book I have not seen before (like the fact that the main character was not a white female), but there was also things I have seen done before. Sure, some parts had me rolling my eyes but it's YA. what did I expect? I can say I am truly excited to start the second book. Highly recommend for YA lovers.
