The Cutest Romance for the Best Men

I picked this up thinking it would be a nice and light, fun read when I was feeling restless and unable to just settle on a book. And it was all of the above, but it was also more and I was pleasantly shook by how much I adored it; this book just made me happy!

Asher the mega rich, super suave, stupid hot ex athlete with floofy hair and golden retriever energy, and Mark the nerdy cute mathematical superhero, banker/trader with the buttoned up secret sexy beast energy are so flipping adorable together I had my aww face on the whole time. Their fun, flirty banter put a buzz in my blood and a big smile on my face. They were also delightfully, spine tinglingly filthy together. The nicknames! The drunk texts! They were like, couple goals. We see their sexy awkward but shimmery tension at the start then the wedding shenanigans and Mark’s challenges as a single parent and Asher’s past self image issues, but I wish we got just a smidge more of his background. Anyhoo, I didn’t care about it all that much and their mutual grand gestures at the end just had me swooning all over my couch. Also, there’s just something about New York City hotshots living their best life in fiction that soothes my middle class American dream heart for some reason.

This is a fun but deeply flawed book. First, I found all the many references to spreadsheets very silly. This book relies heavily on the stereotype that spreadsheets only belong in the realm of geeky, nerdy-type men. I was annoyed by that and also that the authors probably have no conception of how spreadsheets actually work.

As charming and endearing as the MCs are in this book. They tended to act a little childishly and immaturely which was a detriment to the story. I can't imagine men in their positions behaving the way they did and still be considered competent, functioning adults. Of particular note is the frequent sex or sexual innuendo in other people's workplaces (cake shop, fitting/dressing rooms etc.) That is a hard no for me. The people who work there have to work there because they have a job to do and therefore unable to consent to whatever these two men thought was "hot" at the time. It isn't hot and honestly, these men should have known better. Authors should have been more careful as this type of behaviour is problematic and reflects on them poorly.

Also, not a fan of drama caused by a failure to communicate effectively. Although, here it may have inadvertently worked given the previously established immaturity of these two MCs. Also, communicating through gossipy BFFs - and particularly when it is used to move the plot - is also a big no for me.

This book is certainly an improvement over the first freely released prequel. Honestly, I have no idea why you would release something so bad that it almost dissuades people from purchasing the upcoming book. I nearly passed on this book because of it, but as much as I thought this was a fun read ... it is not without its problems. Reader beware.

Mark and Asher

KU catch up read ..sister's fiance best friend? Not sure if this is a trope but playboy v nerd and they make it work.

Communication isn't huge between Mark and Asher but the smexy scenes are hot (especiallly if your a spreadsheet lover) ...throw in a cute little 7yr old and an ex and you have a light hearted read with a HEA

I've read a few Sarina Bowen lately. I don't like 1st person POV, especially dual. I don't like present tense narrative. I generally don't read MM romance and i do not read new adult. So what happened? Lol. It's like all those things just don't matter. I saw 'Him' on a list of top rated romances. It's on Kindle Unlimited, so what's to lose? Well. Wow. Buckets of tears and a very full heart later I was so in love with those boys. And it hasn't stopped. With every book I am so impressed by the way we get to the heart of the characters. The back stories, the emotional depth, the pain, the desires... it's so real. Add that to comic relief, hot hot hot hotness and HEAs and I am so hooked. It's ridiculous. Honestly can't believe such 'good reads ' are on KU. Crazy but I'm loving it.

I have been mulling around in my head as to why I enjoyed this book so much as it has ticked some boxes…
