Sooo hard to get into. Just like the first book. And I wonder if its even a worthy read. Slow. Slow.

This book haunted me for years after reading it, thinking of the Elven overlords Handmaid's Tale.

I enjoyed this book, possibly because it's different from the other stuff I've been reading. The story, setting, and characters are interesting. Some of the transitions and character growth were less than smooth, and the romances all came at the same time, two somewhat suddenly. Although there was fighting and the beginning (I think) of a war, the violence is kept to a minimum, and there is hardly any gore. While some things may be insinuated, the romances are 100% clean and the book dwells on the emotions of those romances, rather than the physical aspects of them.

I liked that one of the main characters was different from your typical heroine: a woman bound by tradition who chafed under that role, but was too timid and browbeaten to do anything about it.

The second of Lackey/Norton's Halfblood Chronicles. This book introduces a new culture in the authors' fantasy world, as well as delving deeper into the world of the elves. Very enjoyable.

Elvenblood is book 2 in the series and…I think Misty bit off more than she could chew, honestly. She really starts to struggle as the cast gets larger, and this juggles 2-3 plots at all times. Shana basically gets sidelined in favor of new characters, and…jesus christ Misty does anyone in your world have a happy childhood? ffs. Anyway despite all of the dystopia there’s a lack of urgency. Shana et al are at a point where they can 1. continue overthrowing the elves or 2. not do that, and while they settle on #1 it’s because….otherwise the elves will come after them, while simultaneously they keep running into people who are not bothered by the elves. So the motivation makes no goddamn sense AND. And. It makes them all sound like awful people because the elves are literally keeping an entire human population enslaved. Why is this not your top priority???
