I’ve been torn for years over this incredible series: on the one hand, it’s beautifully written and has compelling characters and heart wrenching journeys both physical and emotional, and I want it to be required reading for everyone. On the other hand, I understand that such gritty and challenging fantasy might not be everyone’s cup of tea. So I only tend to recommend it to a select few friends and family I know would love it like I do, when what I would really love to shout my adoration from the rooftops.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this book. There was a lot I liked, but also there was stuff I didn't like. The problem is, I can't really put my finger on what I didn't like? I loved the beginning- I was fascinated by the world and the 5 days of the unspeakable. At first, I liked the next bit- until he started flip-flopping about Evanjalin. I guess maybe I just wasn't understanding his feelings or something. I had a hard time following how or why his feelings were so intense. Plus, honestly, I think the middle just may have been a bit slow? The ending was really good though!
