Noonan is a well-known political columnist for the WSJ, so it's no surprise this anthology of her favorite works is chockful of observations, inclinations and, yes, sometimes heavy-handed rants, on all things POTC (politics of the twentieth century). But to me, she is at her best when commenting on the average Joe and the human spirit; to wit, her description of writing Reagan's speech after the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster and her insights on the 9/11 attacks and memorial site prompt tears every time.
