3.7 AVERAGE

I liked the romance and suspense in the book.

I listened to the audiobook. I thought the narration was pretty good with the exception of Sophie's character. Sophie sounded nasally and whiny.

I found the beginning of the book to be interesting. It pulled me right in with the intrigue. It kept me engaged with the danger, suspense, and mystery.

I never felt the romance between Damon and Sophie. I just didn't feel a connection, vibe, or chemistry. Their characters seemed kind of flat, maybe one dimensional. I didn't care for Sophie's character at all. I completely understood her reasons for her lack of trust at first. Once she decided to trust Damon, she still didn't trust him. How could she ask him for so much information when she was withholding information from him about her father?

Then things started happening that I find irritating in most romantic suspense books. The FMC decides she knows more than the fully qualified and experienced FBI agent/military man or woman, cop, PI, etc. People experienced in self defense, espionage, evasion, interrogation, etc. BUT, the FMC knows better. Frustrating.

With a couple of exceptions, this was still a somewhat interesting read. I will definitely continue with next book in the series. I'm hoping the series gets better as it goes on.

not exactly a "page-turning suspense" as it claims so meh it was alright i guess -_-

Flat characters. A plot that doesn’t add up to much. Setting almost non-existent. Uneventful, predictable romance arc. Cliched dialogue—‘You won’t get away with this!’

This new series will hook you from the moment you start reading.

This book features FBI Agent Damon Wolfe and Sophie Parker an Archaeologist.

It all starts off with Sophie Parker receiving 4 messages from her FBI father who was killed in a car accident, the messages a vague but they telling her to trust no one in the FBI. Sophie goes on the run and has no idea who she can trust. Sophie is thrown into a whirlwind of betrayal and danger. Her ex flame and a student of her fathers, FBI Agent Damon Wolfe turns up looking for her but she is not sure if he can be trusted. They had a one-night stand once and she woke up to an empty bed. Can she trust him? Can they work together to help find out what happened to her father?

I loved the action-packed plot and heart-stopping tension! It was absolutely a page turner and I could not get enough. This book had everything from romance to mystery to danger to excitement! The characters were amazing and so well written. There are twists and turns around every corner you don’t know who to trust.

You will really enjoy this action packed romantic/suspense read!

Barbara Freethy knows how to write a great book that her readers will not be able to put down.

I would recommend reading this book. I can't wait to read the next one in this exciting series.

Off The Grid: FBI Trilogy:
• Book 1: Perilous Trust
• Book 2: Reckless Whisper
• Book 3: Desperate Play

4 1/2 Stars

It’s not absolutely amazing but it also isn’t horrible. The plot of the story happens quickly. It movies right into the whole premise of the book. Being a romance I, honestly, was expecting more sex scenes. Not explicit just more. There was 2 and they just make it known without going into everything. The last chapter was a little mushy and all I love yous. I skimmed it.
adventurous mysterious medium-paced

First in a 5 book series set in the FBI's NYC office, which can be read as a stand alone, but the seeds of a larger connecting story are planted. Archeologist Sophie and Agent Damon are on the run not knowing who to trust when Sophie's father, head of the FBI's organized crime division dies in a car accident that may not have been an accident, after managing to leave a cryptic message on Sophie's cell phone that sends her into hiding.

Freethy writes good action filled romantic suspense, but the ebook versions need both a better editor and proof reader. Besides the irritating occasional missing pronouns, nouns, and verbs, it is geographically impossible for anyone on the 2nd floor of a luxury townhouse or mansion anywhere on the upper east side of Manhattan to see the Hudson River. Seriously.

This series is more like 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up. Good mysteries but not completely gripping. The main character, Sophie, kept making dumb choices in this story and would try to act brave and then ruin things. I liked the other characters though.
