Much better than I thought it would be … very lyrical and a new take on the climate conversation

Maybe 4.5 stars bc it dragged on sometimes? Excellent book! Heavy & serious & scary but also beautiful, thoughtful & so well written. Reminds me of a climate change version of Coates’s Between the World and Me.

Flawless, devastating, the only thing that comes close to expressing what it’s like.

More like 3.5 - really enjoyed the writing and had some valuable takeaways, but the writing to your unborn child premise felt a little gimmicky to me towards the end, and it read repetitive to me

Listened to the audiobook. This was really hard for me to finish, because in the first third of the book, I hit a wall and didn’t want to pick it up. The despair part of the book really got me down and it was hard to keep going. because i recognized that despair in myself.
I didn’t listen to it for multiple months. But today i listened to the last two thirds of the during my road trip. It was overall very good - I just had to get past that despair part and into the rest!!
i also understood and related to the antinatalism and the celebrating of last things
Sherrell mentioning both Maggie Nelson and Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick really won me over lol
very much reminded me of Robin Wall Kimmerer.
our love needs to beat out our rage, mourn and organize, acknowledging vs surrendering death, etc. very uplifting and good to read, would recommend
