Honestly disappointed that we see the primes consider ending the monarchy and implementing some sort of constitution, only to go "naaaaah let's put another dude in charge." All because they had SAID "it should be someone related by blood to our last king" previously, and then, when the named heir is discovered to be autistic, they find the next related person and go "... but not this guy, and not any of this lady's children." Which... he's not a good guy, for sure - although nearly all the bad people in Shinn's world are bad because they are child predators, including emotional abuse right on up through pedophilia and outright murder - but the whole scene was really striking and disappointing. And yeah, there is a ton of ableism in this book, both regarding the Welchin heir and the Malquinese heirs.
