This book isn’t exactly what I was expecting of such a well known classic, but it was pretty good. There was a lot of… interesting views on the lds faith, but the author later stated that he was misinformed. I had no clue who the perpetrators was or how he did it, and was definitely confused in the second part.
I really liked how the author made sure Sherlock had his faults and how he showed Sherlock’s humanity. I also liked the development of his and Watson’s friendship.

This is the first book was the world is introduced to the infamous Sherlock Holmes. In his first full adventure, Sherlock makes a grand entrance into the world of crime-solving, along with the help of the good Doctor Watson. He makes his way through the plot with confidence and intellect that baffles the best and brightest of Scotland Yard.

I enjoyed the lengthy explanation of how Holmes figures out the riddle that is the murder. It was so interesting to watch the growth of friendship between him and Watson, and the amount of frustration that he causes to Scotland yard. It's wonderful when an author can create an intelligent character and not have to say 'look he's smart' but can just show the reader through the story.

I liked the mystery of this book, but the cutaway scene lasted several more chapters than it ought to and I nearly stopped reading. If you struggle with pacing changes like I do, I don't recommend this book.

I liked the story.  And it was very well written.  The characters were written with great care.  They had a slight but visible development, and it fit.  It was nice and at the same time interesting to see the beginning of the collaboration between Holmes and Dr.  Watson.
