I really enjoyed this book, but struggled to figure out how to rate it. I'm closer to 40 than 14 and I didn't want to penalize the book or author for being beyond the intended audience. Ultimately, I decided on 5 stars because while I found the narrative a bit simple, the story was fun and boasted a neurodivergent heroine. This is definitely a middle-grade story, not a "YA" book intended for adults. Though, like me, many adults may enjoy it too.

Elle McNicoll truly is one of the best middle grade authors out there at the moment.

A third hit for me from this author. As ever Elle is fantastic at writing characters, I adored all of them and their interpersonal relationships. One thing the author excels at is her ability to make you feel such a wave of emotions over the course of a relatively short book. I thought the whimsy and magic of this story were also beautifully captured and will be such an exciting thing for kids to read. It was immersive and heart-warming. I loved this book so much and highly anticipate the sequel!
