Okay, it’s official, Elle McNicholl is my new favourite author! I knew after reading AKOS twice in one week I needed to read more of her books, and although I wanted to read Show Us Who You Are First, but when I went to Waterstones only had Like a Charm and Like a Curse, so I read Like A Charm first and wow wow wow, what a book!! It was such an addictive and immersive world, which I felt so drawn to and drawn in by.

The characters are wonderful and although at times I found her anger slightly grating, I completely fell in love with Ramya (and particularly Ramya and Marley as a team!) and her beret toting ways and especially how driven and absolutely intent on helping people. I particularly enjoyed the part when Opal said about neurodivergent women feeling so driven to try and right wrongs in the world, as that was something that I’ve seen in the neurodivergent women around me and which I relate to in myself too.

The descriptions of the magical creatures and beings in the book are wonderful! The Sirens are terrifying and a definitely malevolent force, while the witches, kelpies, vampires, hulders etc all seem so wonderful and amazing!

I can’t wait to read the second one now!
