I got so excited when I saw Elle McNicoll had already written another book since Show Me Who You Are was an unexpected favourite of mine last year (and that cover!) so I just had to pick up Like a Charm. Sadly, I didn't like it quite as much as Show Me Who You Are, but it was still so much fun.

Again, McNicoll comes through with an amazingly written protagonist. Ramya is so much fun to follow, I love her strength and her humour and her flaws. She has a great development arc and I am intrigued as to where she will go in the sequel. I like the supporting cast too, especially the aunts, but the main friendship between Ramya and Marley isn't quite strong enough.

I also loved the Edinburgh setting, it really fit the magical vibe of the plot and the incorporation of classic mythology. The plot is straight forward and simple, allowing the characters to shine, and suiting the MG audience. Overall a fun read! I look forward to seeing what McNicoll writes next.

Honestly I don’t think Elle McNicoll can do any wrong. I adored this book and the female empowerment behind it. It also taught me a lot about what being dyspraxic means.

I loved the story and was fully invested throughout.

Every time I read middlegrade I realize I need more of it in my life, and this was such a great one! It was fun, and full of heart, and such an accessible read - I absolutely flew through it. Can't wait for the sequel!
