Superman fought some alien, because......I think the alien wanted to control the universe?
Oh and apparently there were alien sleeper cells, but they all died within one page, I guess.
Then the alien sent more aliens to fight aliens that I know, but I am still not sure why. Martian Manhunter and Starfire, welcome to the seven I guess.

The art was great like before but I would have preferred more Lois and Clark interactions, which seems slim in these volumes. We get very little insight to life outside of Superman's battles of the issue.

Now...onto the annual...

I hated the annual! The art style was completely wrong for Superman. The writing was all over the place and I didn't get he feeling that it was Superman speaking from the dialogue. I swear the art made it look like a Beetle disguising himself as Superman for the day. John Lennon impersonation aside, the action poses were ridiculous, one scene in particular looked like Superman was mid-twerk when an eruption of gas
Distracted him. In another he looked as though he'd caught rabies or mad cow. He essentially spent the entire annual getting his butt kicked and whining about it.

The writers of the annual also seem to be the Clark Kent is the real person who plays Superman camp. Which I disagree with, so that made the reading experience less enjoyable but by a small amount.

As an addition I would like to state that I love the cover art for this volume. The cover shows a younger looking Superman though and hints at some of the art inconsistencies of the volumes so far. Each page varies and sometimes tends to show Superman's facial age differing from page to page. In one scene he appears somewhat younger but more often than not we are shown the face of a late thirties early forties looking superman. The older looking superman doesn't super bother me, but in other scenes he seems younger. His Clark face in particular always looks super old.

The end

Nice cameos but the major villain in this volume isn't one of my favorites. Or, at least he feels like a bad fit for Superman. I preferred him in conjunction with Grifter. Not bad but not as good as Action Comics as penned by Morrison.

This new villain who is an alien/demon??? Was just one of the lamest ever. The one interlude story with the intangible girl was more interesting than this other set of stories.
