i enjoyed theorising what had happened. some of my theories were way off the mark but most were spot on.
final thoughts: there was so much self-inflicted pain. these characters really need therapy.

After Verity and It Ends with Us, Ugly Love feels very shallow for a CoHo. For the most part of the novel, I didn't connect with the characters and their relationship. It was just a succession of sex scenes with a female character that I wanted to murder. Tate's complaining that Miles just wants to have sex with her when it was precisely their deal? Or the fact that she's annoyed by the Thursday's game night when it's not even her apartment? And the lack of self respect, like when they're having sex and Miles says the name of his ex and Tate is telling him to finish instead of slapping him and leave?
The last third of the book with Miles and Rachel's point of view is way better and I honestly wished Ugly Love were about them and not about Tate and Miles. I wished the Miles part were not entirely flashbacks but focusing a bit more on the present because I love this character and found it interesting.

"Maybe that's the rite of passage before you become a man—realizing your father doesn't have life figured out any more than you do."

Okay so this book-like all Colleen Hoover books-was absolutely insane (derogatory) and laughably unrealistic. But, it was also interesting and touching. People make fun of Colleen Hoover readers all the time because the writing is so elementary and the plot often simplistic. And like that's completely valid and true but also... it's fun?? Like lighten up a little people!!! Not every book has to be Dostoevsky, sometimes they can just be fun!!

This is gonna offend a lot of people probably, but CoHo books are comparable to Taylor Swift's music for me. They're kinda cringe and surface level, but theyre entertaining and at times strike a very deep chord! And there's a reason they both are so popular...because they're easily digestible and FUN, God dammit!

I don't like books that don't have cleaning up as part of the sex because it's very unrealistic LOL

Don't like that it keeps repeating words and names multiple times like come on it's weird especially when listening to audiobook. The author also wrote the characters as people who have obsession with words. Like repeatedly. It's very cringey.

Miles 6 years ago sounds like an obsessive creepy teenager. Also if he hasn't had sex for 6 years and the last time he had sex he was 18, he is now magically a master at sex?!?!

Tate is a doormat. Everything she did was so annoying. Like he literally said his ex's name while having sex and you still wanted him to finish and still wanted him to fell in love with you? PATHETICCCC
