I absolutely loved this book! Favorite Soulwood book so far! Nell's growth from a church woman to a special agent is awesome to see, and I love that she doesn't always get everything right. Her relationship with Occam is swoon worthy and I can't wait for Book 6!

3.5 actually. Like this world and how it is growing. Glad to see all the characters and how their team is doing. Get a little bothered by some of the "churchwomen" talk. I don't have a frame of reference for these communities, so no idea if it's and actual characterization or a horrible stereotype. But it is something that hits me wrong every time.

The book also had a big ewww factor, partially me feeling nauseous when reading it but actually had to put it down and walk away at times. The description of the victims was um, vivid

Love this series. Always something new and creative. Great characters. The main plot had a lot of new characters. Was a little hard to keep everything straight towards the end. Still a great read.

Loved the police procedural aspects of the book. Loved the PsyLed team and would love a series about them or Firewind. A story where Nell is a side character and not the resolution to every problem. Nell has way to much power. Nell’s taking offense to every man she comes across could have been toned down, it became irritating as the story progressed. We get it every southern man not named Occam was flawed, sexist, racist and not “woke,” as my teenagers say. My wife defended Nell by reminding me she was a victim of abuse which I comprehend but at some point someone needs to have a seat down or seek counseling for her.
Overall enjoyable series. Still love me Yellowrock more.

Favorite in the series to date, well structured, and a lovely mix of procedural and fantasy elements.
