I didn't anticipate all the twists and turns this book took. Yejide went through it! I am still processing Yejide and Akin's tumultuous relationship in relation to Nigeria's political turmoil within the period in which the book is based. This a definitely a page-turner for me!

“but the biggest lies are often the ones we tell ourselves. i bit my tongue because i did not want to ask questions. i did not ask questions because i did not want to know the answers. sometimes faith is easier than doubt.”

we so easily destroy beautiful love through deception. our secrets bury in between our sheets, cover us up, keep us warm in our coldest of days. in the name of protection, we actually destroy

the author is able to weave the political landscape of Nigeria into the romantic relationship between our two main characters. how that impacted the way they were able to maneuver within their relationship

it would have been a 5 star if the author has given me just a little bit more. i wanted more from the political aspects in this novel especially and more of an in-depth exploration of the love story
