A beautiful ending to an exquisite retelling. Despite knowing how the story of Romeo and Juliet ends, the twists and bends to the source material had me constantly second guessing just how Roma and Juliette would meet their fate (that duel, anyone??). The inclusion of political unrest between the Communists and Nationalists provided an intriguing backdrop and helped reinforce just how much violence permeates this world and that of the original play.

What I liked best, and which still carries on from Book 1, is just how much agency everyone has.  Instead of believing that only through death can they preserve their love, Roma and Juliette choose to keep fighting for their love. Love for each other. Love for their city and for its people. But of course, Chloe Gong makes her characters far too clever to simply go out with a bang, so while this story has all the makings of a tragedy, what we're left with is an overwhelming, burning sense of hope.

This is hands down the best series I’ve ever read I’m never felt more attached to a book before. It’s unreal. I usually find it hard to connect to a book and really feel what’s happening but this I just could not stop thinking about it the characters are incredibly put together they seem so real. I love them all so much especially Benedikt and Marshall I love their interactions.
I’m just loosing my mind over Roma and Juliette, the way the tension skyrocketed after that scene at the bar which was the best chapter btw (tvd). That really did it for me after that the ship was defiantly sailed. And there was so much tension both good and bad

MAN WHAT THE HECK WAS THIS ENTIRE BOOK. i was spoiled by who the blackmailer was and who was controlling the monsters but man i didn't really expect that at all. i could've used a little forewarning before the ending. i mean is romajuliette alive?? ARE THEY DEAD? DO THEY AT LEAST GET TO GO TO ZHOUZHUANG IN THE AFTERLIFE??? which by the way will now be added to my travel bucket list. i can't wait to move onto last violent call though. the book cover is gorgeous by the way.
