RECENZE na blogu...
Kniha byla hodně dobrá, ale na pět hvězdiček tomu něco chybělo. I když byl příběh zajímavý, neměla jsem problém knihu odložit a četla jsem ji relativně dlouho.

The first time i tried to read this i had the book and it was very detailed and a little confusing. I only made it through about 50 pages. However someone suggested I listen to it and that did it. I was able to kind of bypass some of the not crucial stuff which let me get to the imaginative, creative, and cool story. Glad I gave it a second chance, really enjoyed it.
This was such an amazing surprise for me! I didn't expect it to be bad by any means but I was really blown out of the water!
This book really exemplifies what I enjoy about YA. Accessible, fast-paced, and able to take a simple premise and make a wonderful story out of it.
I loved the main cast and how they interacted with each other. So often you see insta-love along with a contrived love triangle, and another female character that's probably rich and bitchy to the main character. It was SO nice to pick up a YA book and have the main character strong and capable (but not stupid chosen one overpowered), a secondary female character who is kind to the main one and is also smart and generous, and a single love interest that developed over the course of the story and had a lovely slow-burn side plot.
(The vibes of this book are very BBC Merlin which I also love)
I wish I could have read this book as a teen, but I have absolutely no regrets picking it up now in my twenties.

Lovely, compelling, and fun to follow, but the vocabulary was both daunting and exhausting for me, even though I've always considered myself a strong reader. I felt like I needed a dictionary. Even so, my print edition had an extensive glossary at the end, which was nice for the medieval words and those that were made up. I had my husband look up "camelopardine" for me and the name of this book popped up within the results. The writing, it must be said, is undoubtedly unique.

Dragon stories always have the potential to be either very boring or extremely fascinating. I honestly worried about this book, I didn't want it to turn out like Inheritance or Eona, in which it was a struggle to finish. But this book didn't disappoint. Rachel Hartman's debut novel is a hidden gem of a book, with the most enthralling dragons I've read.
The characters were well written and appealing. Seraphinas conflicting feelings about her parentage and dragon heritage were clearly shown. She is a realistic character who is flawed, lies and is self-conscious. Kiggs as a romantic interest is also very good. Their relationship is also plausible and sweet but I hate all the deception involved. I really liked Glisselda, also very realistic. I felt bad for her, disliked her, and loved her throughout the book. All the other characters were well thought out and realistic too.
Hartman's writing is beautiful. It makes the emotion and feeling in the book come alive but also succeeds in clearly portraying the characters and plot in a simple way that doesn't take away from the writings beauty.
The plot was great as well. I enjoyed trying to figure out the mystery of where/ the villain is. I also loved learning how Seraphina dealt with her memories from her mom, and hearing about the garden in her head. It was interesting to see how she found the people in the garden. ( If you haven't read the book, you have no idea what I'm talking about so just ignore the past few sentences) I also liked how Seraphinas feelings and thoughts matured throughout the novel.
You never know what you might find in a book like this, but I know I found a beautiful story that I would recommend to any fantasy lover or YA reader. If you love dragons READ THIS BOOK! I can't wait for the sequel!!
