I first read this many years ago with my sister. At the time, I thought it took too long to end, but I also thought it was great fun. My sister told me that it was the most fun of any book.
Since then, I had forgotten much of it and thought maybe I should read it again, but it's way too long for a reread.
Then, I learned about a new audio version narrated by Richard Armitage, who is, without a doubt, the very best audiobook narrator of all time. I literally jumped for joy.
With the benefit of a little more maturity, I thought it was even more fun than before. It did take too long to end. The narration, as I expected, was incredible. He has such an amazing talent.

The book is good. The plot is compelling, the characters - fairly full-fletched, the writing - really good. It really makes you believe that it’s a story of a parallel world England (or maybe even a forgotten part of our own world’s history). I just didn’t care about any of it that much - and I don’t think it was the book’s fault really.

An interesting book about the revival of magic in England in the early 1800s written in the style of that time. I enjoyed the writing and the premise, but gave up around 38%. The story definitely picked up once Strange entered the scene but it’s just too long-winded… a book to read if you have a quiet week on the beach, but I don’t have the patience otherwise.
